Dear Arun
As a homeschooling Dad that's been in boots and all from day one I got a little cross being lumped in with that lot. But that's okay I get cross most days about ways in which "modern civilisation" shapes our relationships and attitudes.
And, I must accept, the majority of fathes are like you describe.
Can you reshape your thoughts to help a home educating dad cope with a disengaged mum?

Great article! You could add my spouse to your list of 'Rent an Unschooling Dad' but he would require some type of flight related hobby in lieu of football or fishing, lol.

I'm glad I came across your article!

Hi Arun,

Great site! Great article! Glad to have found it.

We are first time homeschoolers/unschoolers/... starting now. Our son is 9 years old.

The past school year was an eye opener for us, when we started seeing our son coming home frustrated everyday that he had to learn and do the same thing over and over again. We decided to give homeschooling a try--take a moment/day/month/year at a time and see how it goes.

Thanks again for a great site and chock full of helpful information.

Regards,
-Desika

Yep, before we started homeschooling 15 years ago, I can remember being like that. Now, I'm proud to say I'm a homeschooling dad and proud of it.

Thanks Arun, brilliant and insightful as usual. Your male perspective has helped me enormously in constructing my notes for the Perth 2008 Home Education Seminar next weekend. Robin would have said all of the above but he hasn't got the way with words that you have! Thank you very much from both of us.

cheers

A link to this article was posted on the Scottish home education yahoo goup so I immediately checked it out - my husband is one of the very reluctant ones - and all I can say is a very simple, heartfelt THANK you. We are new to homeschooling and while I am nervous my husband is probably terrified; I can see that now. We live in Ireland where the home schooling community is either tiny or very much still 'underground'. The timing of finding your insights could not be better as we are all off on holiday to Spain next week..so, fingers crossed.
