WEB LINKS

These are some inspiration/ interesting/ thought provoking sites we have found in our travels. This is just the beginning so please check back soon for updates…

UNSCHOOLING SITES

  • Joyfully Rejoycing: This is one of our favourite unschooling and alternative parenting site. We were regularly visiting this site while we shifted to radical unschooling. Along with Rue Kream’s book, and some unschooling elists it was and is a key resource for us.
  • Ren Allen’s Learning in Freedom Ren Allen is a radical unschooler with a high profile on elists. We have found her posts and site extremely useful.
  • Danielle Conger’s Organic Learning Danielle is a very vocal and prolific writer on unschooling and other matters.
  • Sandra Dodd’s Unschooling another great resource for radical unschooling, probably the biggest resource on the web.
  • Living Joyfully is an unschooling site by Anne Ohman. She is Canadian based and is the founder of the Shine with Unschooling egroup which her site links too. Her powerful story of navigating and effectively avoiding labels of Aspergers, Austism etc etc and seeking joy, acceptance and connection with her child are an inspiration. Lots of general articles on unschooling too.
  • Unschooling Info Great links, elists and articles on unschooling.

  • Natural Child Project Jan Hunt’s great resource on all things parenting and even unschooling. A really wonderful resource that is a must for anyone interested in these issues

  • Parental Intelligence recommended newsletter and site from Bob Collier, an Australian stay at home Dad
  • Consensual Living is a great site linked to a very useful egroup. Not unschooling specific (though involves many unschoolers) but designed for parents looking for equal partnerships with their children
  • Alfie Kohn has done a fantastic job of unravelling traditional parenting and putting forward non coercive options for a mainstream audience. His book Unconditional Parenting is a favourite of ours. See his article on our site 5 Reasons to Stop Saying “Good Job”
  • Naomi Aldort parenting advice and more. See her article on our site about Surviving the Toddler Years.
  • BLOGS & PERSONAL SITES

  • The New Unschooler Colleen and her anxious honest accounts of unschooling are a regular haunt of mine.
  • Just Enough and Nothing More is unschooling Mum Tammy Takashashi’s site. She is prolific, often with daily updates to her blog. Im often in awe of how much interesting stuff she has to say.
  • MajikFaerie belongs to a radical unschooling mum and her daughter “LittleTree” who amazingly just came into our lives by moving about 30 minutes down the road.
  • News from Hawkhill Acres is a light hearted blog about unschooling.
  • Belinda Moore an Australian homeschooling mum of 6 who amazingly still has time to run this blog.
  • The Homeschooling Experiment is Shawna’s blog about homeschooling her three boys. Shawna is a prolific writer and blogger maintaining several blogs.
  • Julie Persons unschooling blog is quite different to the norm. Put it this way… if a picture is worth 1000 words, Julie’s site is the most wordy on the web

  • Connections Ezine of Unschooling & Mindful Parenting is probably my favourite read for unschooling issues. Only $10 to subscribe for a year… you should definitely do it.

  • Life Learning Magazine is a Canadian based mag which we subscribe to, it is very unschooling influenced although they dont tend to use that term.

I hadn’t seen this wonderful list of resources before! Nicely done.
Just wanted to make one correction though..Anne Ohman is based out of New York state, not Canada. Her work is archived on Pam’s site and Pam is from Canada.
Just thought I’d let ya know.:)
