An Australiana Interlude

Ive noticed that most visitors to this site are from outside Australia, so I thought id include some pics of some australian animals from our recent trip to Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary. We got to hang out and even feed kangaroos, koalas, possums and rainbow lorikeets. Snakes and lizards too but i ran out of room…

Look at those birds! They almost look hand painted, they are so vibrant. Beautiful!!!

Those have to be the prettiest birds I have ever seen. And I’ve never seen (or even heard of ) them before. I’m guessing they’re the ones called Rainbow lorikeets. Apt name indeed.

    Thanks for sharing.

Yes they are the rainbow lorikeets. Its amazing at feeding time, there were literally hundreds of them flying around. We could hold out the bowls and dozens of them would land on us and feed from the plate. We all had to wear hats because they can hurt your head.

Of all Australian animals I still find the kangaroos the most amazing. They are so muscular and the use of the tail as a counterbalance to their jumping is so unique and beautiful to watch. The Wildlife sanctuary was great because we could literally sit around with the kangaroos… though we were kept busy by Z who wanted to sit on them!

    Hi Elizabeth,

you can have a look at the roll call entry to see where some of the visitors are from.

Its probably about 30% from Australia, maybe about 40% from the USA, about 10% UK and then 20% from places such as India, Romania, Greenland, Israel, Hong Kong and other locations.

Nice to have you pop in from the UK by the way :D
