unfortunately a few days ago after a long chat we decided not to go to L&L this year. This gave us a sense of relief because there are many sound reasons… but also one of disappointment.

I do tend to draw from the US community of unschoolers a lot for moral support & advice, given that more people over there are exploring this approach, so we are really sorry to miss out this time.

oh well, back to vicariously living through web sites & egroups.

Hi Arun,

I’m a regular at the Lismore h/s group and wondered if you knew of Esperanto? The international language with it’s joint travel/accommodation system ‘Pasporta Servo’. Free accommodation when you stay with an Esperanto host.
It’s definitely a more intense way to travel and more than likely not for this time but thought you might like to know about it anyway.

I’m looking at it for the girls and Dave and I to learn because I love the original idea, to break down cultural barriers and better understand and appreciate each other through a universal language that is easy for anyone to learn.

Arun, if you guys are in L.A. at all you’re welcome to stay with us! We’re hoping to go to Live and Learn as well so if we don’t see you in L.A. maybe we’ll see you in NC. If you do stay in San Francisco let me know and I’ll give you the extensive list of all our favorite places there. I grew up in the Bay Area and my sister and parents lived in SF for many years. We love San Francisco!

Another option is couch surfing. You sign up and either offer a couch, request a couch or both. There is a section for families, and they tend to be of the more open minded variety LOL. We’ve got our couch out on offer, but so far had no takers.

I used housesitters when I was away over christmas break and found a lovely couple to sit for us and mind the pets. I just googled sites that dealt with this sort of stuff.
