Our Mornings in the Science Lab

Anne & I have a great responsibility in the morning. We take turns in assisting a scientist with his work.

The science is quite ecclectic. One morning the focus is on chemistry and mixing a huge range of chemicals and compounds with unexpected results. Alternatively it might be on physics, especially comparitive studies on gravity, mass, friction and descent velocities.

The experiments often overlap with biology– especially exploring the senses of taste, touch and smell. I admit that occupational health and safety play a back seat to knowledge and quite often something is swallowed during these investigations!

For many this might be the cause of alarm– for Anne and I, it still stirs some sense of relief… a reminder of an almost forgotten purpose even! That purpose was lost when we made our shift in perception.

ziglabNow we generally enjoy our time in the lab (pictured to the right). It was not always that way… It was much harder when all we thought we were doing was helping our son eat breakfast! Now we know better…

Hi ~ just wanted to stop by and say that I’ve enjoyed reading your blog. I’m an unschooling mama to 6 kids & we’re pretty close to the radical end. Thanks for putting yourselves out there! :) I think I’m going to add you to my blog links.

And what a fun lab it is! Not only is meal time a great science experiment, but when they get older and can join you in the kitchen you have a new science lab to explore together.
