Kindred Update and Uncanny Coincidence

Kindred Magazine CoverGot an email from the editor of Kindred Magazine who published my Unschooling Journey article in their July/ August edition.

I was both surprised and excited to hear that the Unschooling article has had more positive feedback than almost any other article in the magazine to date (apparently up there with the “vaccine cover-up” and “depleted uranium”)!

This was especially encouraging after the discussion/ debate on this site with the Weston Price crowd over the question of children and food (see the previous post,“The Backlash Begins” which got over 40 comments and counting…).

A spooky footnote on that…

Last month M our daughter was playing outside a school near us. She made friends with B, a girl through the fence. Unfortunately lunch came to an end and B had to go back inside.

Because they clicked, Anne decided to leave a note at the office for B’s parents with a description of where our house was, so the girls could meet up again.

Later that week a knock on the door came and M and B were happy to be reunited.

The Uncanny Coincidence? B was brought to the door by Joanne her Mum. Joanne edits Nourished Magazine and wrote the editorial slamming my article in the first place, thus initiating the food debate on this site and hers!

Small World hey?

The good news – it seems as though the next generation is pretty good at connecting no matter what parenting philosophies we hold.

You were obviously meant to meet! I hope you did not offer them any lollies and ice cream while they were over?

I was one of the people who found your article extremely challenging and thought provoking. I won’t be unschooling or even homeschooling anytime soon… but it has led to a number of shifts in my household. Thank you for sharing your story.

good to hear about the positive feedback, arun!

was joanne aware of the connection as well? i love how there are no social, political, parenting,…, boundaries with our kids. Wish I could return to such a non-judgmental state of bliss :)

No way! Wow. What on earth did you say to each other? And how fun! I wonder if she has a different opinion after meeting M and seeing how well your daughters get along.
