From Steiner to Radical Unschooling… article for Kindred magazine

I recently wrote an article entitled An Unschooling Journey – from Control to Connection which you can read by clicking here.

I wrote it for Kindred magazine (formerly Byron Child Magazine) who will hopefully be publishing it in their June edition.

I have been very motivated to write such an article because although anne & I feel that Radical Unschooling is right for us it seems to have created such a barrier between us and families who we would have traditionally connected with ie. Steiner/ Waldolf families. In practical terms such families will often not want to expose their children to a child who can eat what they want (eg. lollies), watch what they want (ie. dvds whenever) and play with what they want (in our daughters case… many many barbies). Its a long way from the organic non processed, no TV and felt Steiner dolls!

Anne & I have a lot of respect and understanding for the Steiner approach, Anne introduced our family to it and we used it as our foundation for the first 4 years of our daughters life. The shifts we have made in the last year have been logical and right to us but might seem drastic from the outside… so the article in a way was seeking to be understood by the crowd we feel quite aligned with.

Basically we are hoping to maintain such relationships despite perhaps from their perspective, us going over to the “dark side”! ;)

So anyway… you can read the article here.
